Can you use FSA or HSA for LASIK? 2024 UpdateYes, you can use your FSA and HSA to assist with the cost of your LASIK procedure at Chu Vision. For the 2024 tax year, the IRS has set new annual contribution limits for both Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA). It’s beneficial for those with access to these accounts to know that laser vision correction, including LASIK, qualifies as an eligible expense under IRS guidelines. Utilizing these tax-advantaged accounts allows you to pay for your refractive surgery using pre-tax dollars, which could translate to substantial savings of 20%-30% depending on your tax situation. The financial advantage of HSAs and FSAs is significant, offering a way to cover refractive eye surgery costs effectively with pre-taxed earnings. The amount you contribute to these accounts might be enough to pay for the entire procedure. At Chu Vision, our financial specialists are equipped to guide you through the process of using your FSA and HSA funds for LASIK, potentially covering a major portion or even the full cost of your surgery. What are contribution limits for FSA or HSA, and will they cover the cost of LASIK?
Given these costs, the contribution limits for both FSAs and HSAs may fully or partially cover the cost of LASIK surgery. Patients can use their entire FSA or HSA contribution towards the procedure. If the LASIK cost exceeds the available FSA or HSA funds, the remaining balance can be settled using a credit card or through one of our approved financing plans. Chu Vision strives to provide clear information on these financial aspects to ensure patients can effectively plan and utilize their accounts for their LASIK procedure. How does an FSA work?A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is an employer-sponsored benefit that allows employees to use pre-tax dollars for medical expenses, such as LASIK surgery. To enroll in an FSA, it must be offered by your employer. Once enrolled, a predetermined amount of your income is deducted from your paycheck before taxes and allocated to your FSA. This process not only provides immediate savings on medical costs, often reducing the total LASIK surgery expense by 20-30%, but it also decreases your annual tax burden. The total amount you elect to contribute to your FSA for the year is generally available from the first day of the plan year, enabling you to use the funds for LASIK without waiting for the full amount to be deducted from your paychecks. It’s crucial to note that FSA funds are typically “use it or lose it,” meaning they expire at the end of the plan year. However, some employers may offer a grace period allowing unused funds to carry over into the next year for a limited time. FSAs are similar to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) but with some distinctions, such as lower contribution limits and the ability to access the entire annual contribution at the start of the year. With the “use it or lose it” rule, it’s essential to plan your LASIK surgery and other medical expenses carefully to maximize the use of your FSA funds. Find your true north with New Vision. How does an HSA work?A Health Savings Account (HSA) functions as a tax-advantaged bank account that enables individuals to allocate pre-tax dollars via payroll deductions for future out-of-pocket healthcare expenses. Eligibility for an HSA is contingent upon enrollment in a high-deductible health insurance plan. Unlike a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), the funds in an HSA are not subject to an annual “use it or lose it” policy, allowing the money to grow over time if not spent. In 2024, the contribution limits for an HSA are $4,150 for individuals and $8,300 for families. These funds can be used to cover medical costs not paid for by insurance, including procedures like LASIK surgery. One distinct aspect of HSAs is that the contributions need to be in the account before they can be used for eligible healthcare expenses, essentially functioning like a personal pre-tax savings account for medical needs. This structure offers a significant advantage as it allows for long-term financial planning for healthcare expenses, with the added benefit of the funds being available to accumulate interest or investment returns over time. Chu Vision clients considering LASIK surgery can leverage their HSA funds, providing a flexible and tax-efficient way to manage the cost of their eye care needs. Maximize Your Vision Investment: Navigating FSA and HSA for LASIK at Chu VisionLeveraging your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) for LASIK at Chu Vision is a wise financial decision. my gosh I can see the leaves I wasn’t like kind of I kind of needed glasses because if I just stopped wearing glasses I would get into a car accident right away because I wouldn’t I I could not see anything there was no like oh I’m awake oh yes I should put my no it’s like I need them to be able to see things like how many grams of coffee are going in you know important things like that maybe like the next day I was like you know I’m doing like my own personal eye test at home things seem to be very clear like clearer now five six weeks after surgery than they were 3 weeks or 4 weeks after it is like my new normal it’s really cool it’s really cool I definitely find myself I just kind of stop sometimes and I’m like I can read that I can see that this is amazing I’m like is this real well I think the first thing that I would say about like especially leading up to it so there’s like this whole prep call that Chu Vision does with his patience and that made such a difference for me I think the thing that made the biggest difference for there’s a couple things it was kind of like the beginning of me getting oh wow I really have this team of people that’s here for me which is very cool and comforting that was cool but in regards to the surgery it was like oh I have a lot of people that are available to answer my questions and if I forgot a question or if I have another question in like 10 minutes or in 2 days I can call and someone they’ll be available there’s a video that was that’s sent to us that’s like this is what’s going to happen that video everyone should watch that video I was like oh okay that’s this is what’s going to happen that video walked me through there’s two procedures and this is what you should expect and this is how long they are and you’re going to notice these sensations and that’s normal it literally walked me through that whole thing that everyone should watch that video watch that video the other thing that made a difference for me leading up to surgery was that the this is part of the virtual visit but my conversation with Dr chu was amazing I mean I just have never met somebody who on a video conference was so interested in me like this man was really authentically interested in the quality of my life that we were going to do something that was going to make a difference for me he was interested in that he cared about that I mean I got off the phone with him and as my parents are are both in the medical profession they both have like created a very high standard for me for the experience of being with your physician of someone who is going to be with me like right here with me being present with me that makes such a difference so that conversation having that conversation and then coming into the day of surgery I just was so clear I was in such good hands I was clear I was in good hands with a team of people I was clear that I was in good hands with my surgeon and I was really clear that everyone on this team really cared about it that they cared about this is this is going to be great for you we want this to be great for you that experience everyone needs to come here to have that experience being held by a team of people that care about you that in their own unique ways really do express their love for you even if they’re only going to be with you for an hour of your life I am really clear that ChuVision cares about me I will I will tell everybody to come here in fact I have someone’s definitely a little nervous very normal very human you know they took me back there and they did all the prep with me and just talked me through and you took pictures that was so fun my last day with glasses picture I keep looking at that I’m like this chick is so cute I was nervous but I was like okay this is we’re doing this I just think your team should know that they’re amazing they really are so you know I met with Dr Chu afterwards and one of the things that he said is that there’s an intention and like a commitment here to have people really be appreciated and seen that intention is completely fulfilled is totally experienced and from the front desk to all the little tests that you do during your consult walking people through that I remember on my consult there is this one woman and she just asked me these really awesome questions about my life like what mattered to me and what excites me in my life and I was like oh wow this woman is like really interested in me this is really awesome two things that are most impacted are cooking and walking my dog or even going outside and coming in forget about an activity called walking my dog going outside and coming inside you know so if you wear glasses and it’s winter and you go outside and then you come inside your glasses fog up and that’s just a thing that happens and then cooking with any kind of oils and steam that would get on my es and then when I would go to wipe them there’d be like that a streak so that doesn’t happen I definitely wasn’t expecting to be able to see 2 minutes after surgery I was not expecting that you have the surgery and then you go down the two little hallways and then I’m sitting there and he’s checking my eyes and I saw the embroidery on his scrubs and I guess at that point my brain was like I can see that cuz then I could actually I I was like oh my gosh I can I can see that and then I was just so moved that was like so incredible I could read things and I could see things and then I looked up at my husband and I was just like wow I can see you that was just very overwhelming and I was not expecting that I was not expecting to be so knocked back by what I could see my favorite part is how much how much love is here my favorite part is how much I’m loved and I just know that and it’s very obvious and how people are with me and how they are with others and you know I just want everyone to have that experience I’m sure you can have a great LASIK surgeon anywhere but you won’t have the experience that you have in in this community and it is a community it’s not a surgical office it’s not an eye care center this is a community and it’s a community of people who care it’s a community of people who love what they do it’s a community of people who love to give themselves and everyone should come and have that experience via improved vision but a new lease on life. At Chu Vision, we understand the importance of post-operative care to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. One common question we encounter is about showering after LASIK surgery. In this article, we’ll provide clear, straightforward advice on safely caring for your eyes during the healing process, ensuring your path to clearer vision is as smooth as possible. When can you shower after LASIK?We advise our patients that it is safe to bathe or shower normally starting the day after the surgery. However, it is critical during the first week post-surgery to avoid letting water, soap, hair care products, and other liquids come into contact with the eyes. This precaution helps prevent complications such as infections, irritation, and the potential disruption of the corneal flap created during the procedure. At Chu Vision, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our patients following their LASIK eye surgery. Understanding the proper post-operative care is important for a smooth recovery and optimal results. It’s essential to approach your daily showering routine with care. Rubbing your eyes while bathing or showering can lead to a wrinkle in the corneal flap or exacerbate dry eye symptoms, which are important to avoid for a smooth recovery. When considering water exposure after LASIK, the type of water matters significantly. While showering at home is permissible under the guidelines provided, other activities involving water, such as a swimming pool, hot tub, lake, or the ocean, require a different timeline for safe re-entry. Find your true north with New Vision. How do you shower after LASIK?You are encouraged to shower as soon as the day after your surgery, but be sure to close your eyes to prevent any soap, shampoo, or water from entering your eyes. This practice also helps avoid irritation, infection, and interference with the healing process. After LASIK, taking the right precautions while showering aids in your recovery and the long-term success of your vision correction. In addition to keeping your eyes closed while showering, it’s important not to rub your eyes while washing your face. To further protect your eyes during this sensitive period:
Following these guidelines is essential for a smooth recovery and to minimize any potential risks to your eye health after LASIK surgery. We want you to embrace the world with new eyes, confident in the knowledge that every aspect of your care, including the need for eye protection post-surgery, is being handled with utmost empathy and expertise. How Long Do I Have to Wear Dark Glasses After Cataract Surgery?Post-cataract surgery, our nursing team will provide you with dark glasses to wear for comfort. The duration can vary based on individual factors like sensitivity to light (photophobia) and the specific type of lens implanted at the time of cataract surgery. At Chu Vision Institute, we prioritize tailoring post-surgery advice to each patient’s unique needs, ensuring the best possible outcome for your vision correction journey. And some patients love the glasses so much, they choose to wear them longer! Undergoing cataract surgery at Chu Vision Institute means entrusting your vision to some of the most skilled hands in the field, led by the esteemed surgeon Dr. Ralph Chu. The journey towards clearer vision involves certain post-operative care, specifically regarding eye protection. Understanding the Need for SunglassesAfter cataract surgery, your eyes are more sensitive to light. This is because the procedure involves removing the cloudy lens (the cataract) and replacing it with a clear, artificial lens (intraocular lens or IOL). This new lens, while restoring clarity to your vision, can initially make your eyes more sensitive to bright light. Also, during cataract surgery, your eyes are dilated with very strong dilating eye drops, so your pupils are letting extra light in. The purpose of wearing sunglasses post-surgery aids in the healing process and provides comfort from the bright sunlight. The sunglasses recommended post-surgery are not just any ordinary pair. They should have a special coating to block UltraViolet rays, which is imiportant in the early stages of healing. Additionally, these glasses can help protect your eyes from dust and other small particles, reducing the risk of infection and aiding in proper healing. They wrap around your eyes more than traditional sunglasses to protect your eyes at every angle. Wearing dark glasses post-cataract surgery isn’t just about following the doctor’s instructions; it’s about ensuring your eyes heal correctly and comfortably. With Dr. Chu and the team’s guidance at Chu Vision Institute, you can rest assured that your journey toward clearer vision is in safe hands, every step of the way. Understanding Cataract SurgeryCataract surgery is a common procedure designed to improve vision impaired by cataracts. A cataract forms when the natural lens of the eye, responsible for focusing light onto the retina, becomes clouded, often due to protein build-up. This cloudiness can lead to decreased vision and, if left untreated, significant visual impairment. It is not painful, and it is a natural part of aging. The primary goal of cataract surgery is to remove the cloudy lens (the cataract) and replace it with an artificial lens implant, known as an intraocular lens (IOL). This restores clear vision by allowing light to pass through to the retina without the hindrance of the clouded lens. At Chu Vision Institute, this procedure is not just about correcting a visual defect; it’s a step towards enhancing overall quality of life through improved vision. Types of Cataract Surgery at Chu Vision InstituteAt Chu Vision Institute, we offer a range of cataract surgeries tailored to meet our patients’ specific needs and vision goals. Each type of surgery has its specific indications, and at Chu Vision Institute, we ensure that patients receive the most suitable procedure for their condition. Dr. Chu’s commitment to advancing eye surgery is reflected in his dedication to adopting the latest innovations in intraocular lenses, ensuring that Chu Vision Institute remains a leader in providing cutting-edge vision correction services. Influence of Lifestyle on Post-Surgery Eye Care
Environmental Factors and Their Impact
We consider these lifestyle and environmental factors when advising our patients post-surgery. Dr. Chu and his team provide personalized recommendations on the type of sunglasses to wear, considering factors like UV protection level, lifestyle needs, and the specific environmental conditions the patient may encounter. We also educate our patients on the changing environmental factors and their potential impact on eye health, ensuring they are well-prepared to protect their vision in any condition. Navigating the Path to Brighter VisionIn the quest for clearer vision following cataract surgery, we strive to help you understand the importance of post-operative care and the role of dark glasses. We’ve delved into the typical recommendation of wearing dark glasses for at least a week post-surgery, although this can vary based on individual factors like the type of cataract surgery and personal light sensitivity. Protection against light sensitivity, UV radiation, and environmental irritants is a key aspect of wearing dark glasses after your procedure. This step is not just a precaution but a pathway to ensure a smooth and comfortable healing process. Timeline of What to Expect in Your LASIK RecoveryOne Day After LASIKInitial Check-UpThe day after your LASIK procedure at Chu Vision Institute, Dr. Ralph Chu and our dedicated team of eye care specialists will schedule your first post-operative appointment. It is vital to assess the immediate recovery, check the corneal flap placement, and ensure there are no signs and symptoms of complications. It’s a testament to our commitment to providing top-notch postop care. Reduced BlurrinessOne of the joys patients report is the noticeable reduction in blurriness just hours after LASIK. While your vision might be a bit blurry or hazy initially, as the day progresses, many experience a significant improvement in their vision in the first few hours. It’s essential to note that while you may see improvements, the final corrected vision will solidify over time as the eyes heal. The day after LASIK most people are functional and happy with their vision. Temporary SymptomsIt’s not uncommon for patients to experience mild symptoms in the first hours post-surgery. Feelings of itchiness, light sensitivity, or even the sensation of a foreign body in the eye (as if there’s a tiny piece of dust) may be present. While these symptoms might cause slight discomfort, they are temporary and usually subside as the eyes heal. Most people’s eyes are comfortable after a day or two. Use of Eye DropsEye health is paramount after LASIK. Dr. Chu will prescribe a regimen of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops to prevent infections and manage inflammation. Following the recommended eye drop schedule is important for optimal healing. These medicated eye drops play a vital role in ensuring the eyes remain moist, reducing the risk of dry eye syndrome, and aiding the recovery process. Limited ActivityAs much as you might be eager to jump back into your routine right after LASIK, we advise all our patients to take it easy, relax, and give their eyes the best chance for a speedy recovery. Limited Screen TimeProtecting your eyes from strain is essential. Limiting screen time, be it from computers or watching TV, helps in this early phase of recovery. Hydration and NutritionYour body heals best when well-nourished and hydrated. Continue with a balanced diet and ensure you stay adequately hydrated, promoting optimal healing. Returning to WorkFor the vast majority, returning to work is feasible a day or two post-LASIK. If your job heavily involves computer work, we advise taking regular breaks to keep eye strain at bay. Continue diligently using your prescribed eye drops. Those in professions where the environment might pose risks to the healing eyes—like jobs in dusty or chemical substance-laden settings—will benefit from Dr. Chu’s tailored guidance. Professionals like pilots or others requiring impeccable vision can rest assured; Dr. Chu will provide clear return-to-work instructions and vision checks to ensure safety and optimal performance. Reduced Sensitivity to LightAny initial light sensitivity typically starts to wane by the first or second day. However, some might still find comfort in wearing sunglasses indoors to ease any lingering photophobia. If this is not improving or is getting worse, let your care team know right away. In essence, the first day post-LASIK is about allowing your eyes to start their healing journey. With the support and guidance of Dr. Chu and Chu Vision Institute’s care team, you’re in expert hands, ensuring you’re on the right path to achieving the vision you deserve. One Week After LASIKAs the days turn into a week post your LASIK procedure at Chu Vision Institute, the promise of clearer vision becomes a reality. Here’s what you can anticipate one week into your LASIK recovery: Vision StabilizationThe human eye’s remarkable ability to heal becomes evident as patients often start witnessing a clearer and more stabilized visual perception than in the initial days post-surgery. Reduced Dependency on Eye DropsYour dedicated care team at Chu Vision Institute will guide you on the appropriate usage of eye drops. While still essential, the frequency of certain medicated eye drops might be lessened by now, ensuring optimal eye health without overmedication. Decreased RednessThe signs and symptoms from the initial days post-surgery, like redness or a bloodshot appearance, begin to fade, showing the eyes’ progression in the healing journey. Avoid Water ActivitiesWater can be a source of potential infections for healing eyes. Hence, it’s imperative to steer clear of swimming and indulging in hot tub and sauna experiences for another week. The risk associated with these activities could jeopardize the quality of your recovery. One Month After LASIKA month after your LASIK surgery marks a significant milestone in your vision correction journey. Here’s what this exciting phase looks like: Near-Final VisionThe wonders of refractive surgery become evident as your vision inches closer to its final clarity. While patients often revel in their renewed visual acuity, it’s essential to remember that minor fluctuations can still be a part of this phase. However, they’re usually short-lived. Activity ResumptionBeing active is an integral part of many of our patient’s lives. By now, you’re often greenlit to dive back into your favorite sports and strenuous activities. Still, always remember the importance of eye protection, especially in contact sports or environments with dust and debris. Reduced Eye Drop UsageThe healing eyes often require less medical intervention by this point. Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops usage might be tapered off, though the continued use of lubricating eye drops/artificial tears could be beneficial, especially for those prone to dry eyes. Follow-Up AssessmentYour vision journey is closely monitored by our team of expert eye doctors. A month after your LASIK surgery, you’ll be invited for a follow-up eye exam. This is to assess the healing progress, ensure the corneal tissue is recovering well, and evaluate your visual acuity. This check-up is pivotal in confirming the success of the procedure and addressing any concerns. Three Months After LASIKA quarter of a year post-LASIK is an exciting time, marked by significant stability and clarity in vision. Let’s dive into the details of what this phase entails: Stable VisionBy now, the initial fluctuations have settled, and patients at Chu Vision Institute often revel in a stable visual acuity. Your vision should remain consistent, granting you the freedom to indulge in activities with newfound confidence. Reduced Dry Eye SymptomsWhile dry eyes can be a common post-operative symptom, with the combined efforts of our care regimen and the body’s natural healing process, a marked reduction in dry eye symptoms is typically observed around this time. Years After LASIKYears after your transformative LASIK surgery may look like: Annual Follow-upsYour journey to perfect vision doesn’t end with the surgery. At Chu Vision Institute, we are committed to your lifelong eye health. Planning begins for your regular, typically annual, follow-up appointments, ensuring consistent monitoring and optimal visual health. Long-Term StabilityYears of clear and stable vision is the gift of LASIK. By this time, most patients experience sustained clarity. However, it’s worth noting that natural aging processes or other health conditions might introduce vision changes, especially as one approaches their late 40s or early 50s. Retreatment AssessmentLASIK’s high success rate ensures lasting results for the majority. However, a small subset of patients might consider retreatment for even sharper vision or to address minor changes. At Chu Vision Institute, we’re equipped to evaluate and advise on this, ensuring your vision remains at its best. Your LASIK recovery timeline is a testament to the transformative power of modern vision correction. At Chu Vision Institute, our commitment is to accompany you through every stage, ensuring you enjoy life with the vision you deserve. Remember, while these timelines provide a general overview, each patient’s journey can be unique. Always prioritize direct guidance from your surgeon and the care team. Find your true north with New Vision.Your Role in Aiding Your LASIK Recovery at Chu Vision InstituteWhile the expertise and advanced techniques of the Chu Vision Institute play a pivotal role in the success of your LASIK procedure, your dedication to post-operative care cannot be underestimated. It’s a collaborative effort where both the patient and the medical team play vital roles. Following the detailed post-operative care instructions provided by Dr. Chu and his dedicated team is imperative for a swift and smooth recovery. In the days immediately after the surgery, limiting exposure to screens such as computers, TVs, and smartphones is crucial. This helps in reducing eye strain, which in turn aids in faster healing. It’s equally important not to rub your eyes, as this can displace the healing corneal flap and also introduce potential infections. Being mindful of your sleep position can also make a difference; it’s often recommended to sleep on your back to prevent putting direct pressure on your eyes. Wearing protective eye shields during sleep can offer an added layer of protection. Consistent use of prescribed eye drops, be they antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, or lubricating, is necessary to fend off infections and keep the eyes adequately moisturized. Activities involving water, such as swimming or even allowing direct shower water onto the face, should be avoided initially to curtail the risk of infections. Nutrition for Faster HealingYour dietary choices can also influence your recovery speed. Staying well-hydrated is foundational; drinking ample water assists in retaining essential moisture levels in the eyes. Incorporating Omega-3-rich foods, such as salmon, flaxseeds, and walnuts, into your diet can be beneficial, as they not only reduce symptoms of dry eyes but also bolster overall eye health. Consuming antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables like berries, carrots, spinach, and bell peppers provides the eyes with essential vitamins that support their health. Foods rich in zinc, like legumes, nuts, and seeds, are indispensable for the maintenance and repair of the eyes. At Chu Vision Institute, Dr. Chu and our care team emphasize the importance of a balanced, nutrient-rich diet, not just for speedy recovery post-LASIK surgery, but also for maintaining optimal long-term eye health. Following these nutritional guidelines is not just about speeding up recovery; it’s about investing in the quality of your vision for the years to come. Taking these proactive steps in conjunction with following the detailed aftercare plan provided by the Institute ensures that patients get the most out of their LASIK procedure and continue enjoying the clear, transformative vision they deserve. FAQ’s About LASIK Recovery and AftercareWhat is the typical recovery time after LASIK eye surgery? After LASIK surgery, most patients notice a significant improvement in vision within the first day. The blurry vision that some experience following surgery usually clears up within a week. However, a full recovery and stabilization of vision can take a few months. At Chu Vision, we provide a detailed recovery plan and schedule regular follow-up appointments to ensure optimal healing. Is it normal to experience pain after LASIK surgery? It’s common to feel some discomfort or a sensation like having something in the eye after LASIK, but severe pain is rare. Over-the-counter pain relievers can be taken to alleviate any mild discomfort. If you experience severe pain, it’s crucial to contact your doctor or the surgical care team at Chu Vision immediately. Can I use lotion or soap on my face after LASIK?Yes, but be careful. For the first week following surgery, you should avoid getting lotion, soap, or any eye makeup in your eyes. At Chu Vision, our team recommends specific products and techniques to ensure the care of your eyes during the recovery process. How soon can I wear contacts or glasses after LASIK?Even though LASIK aims to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contacts, some patients might still need them for certain activities. You should wait at least a week before trying to wear contacts. As for glasses, you can wear them the day after surgery, but often they are not necessary. Always consult with the optometry team at Chu Vision for personalized guidance. Is blurred vision and dry eyes after LASIK common?Yes, some blurriness and dry eyes are common side effects in the days following LASIK. However, with the careful LASIK procedures at Chu Vision and the prescribed eye drops, these symptoms are typically manageable and diminish over time. Can I play sports or engage in physical activities after LASIK?Activities like swimming and hot tubs should be avoided for at least two weeks to prevent any potential infections. For sports, especially football, basketball, and others that involve potential eye contact, it’s best to wait a few weeks and to wear sports goggles when resuming. Always follow your eye surgeon’s instructions and recommendations, and consider Chu Vision’s advice on care for your eyes during physical activities. When can I return to work after LASIK?Most patients can return to work within a day or two after LASIK, especially if their job doesn’t involve strenuous physical activity. If your job requires staring at screens or being in bright light environments, you may consider taking frequent breaks or waiting a little longer. Always consider your comfort and the advice of Chu Vision for a smooth transition back to your business process. Are there any long-term effects of LASIK that I should be aware of?LASIK has been performed in the United States for decades and is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The long-term effects are mostly positive, with patients enjoying clear vision for years. However, natural aging can affect vision over time. Regular check-ups at Chu Vision can help in monitoring and addressing any changes. Some people report glare or halos that are usually tolerable. Is LASIK the only type of refractive eye surgery available? No, there are several types of eye surgeries for vision correction, including SMILE (small incision lenticule extraction), PRK (photorefractive keratectomy), refractive lens exchange, and EVO ICL (implantable collamer lens). Chu Vision is experienced in all these procedures and can help determine the best one for your specific needs. How much does LASIK eye surgery cost? The cost of LASIK eye surgery varies based on multiple factors, including the technology used and the specific requirements of the patient. While LASIK is an investment, the long-term savings of eliminating or reducing the need for glasses or contacts makes it a valuable one. For specific LASIK cost details and payment plans, contact Chu Vision. Is there a chance I might touch or dislodge the flap after LASIK?It’s crucial in the initial days after surgery to avoid touching your eyes. There’s a risk that you could dislodge the small flap created during the LASIK process. To avoid this, Chu Vision advises patients to wear protective goggles, especially on the surgery day, and follow the provided LASIK aftercare instructions diligently. In the rare case this does happen, Dr. Chu can gently reposition the flap in our office. What other types of laser vision correction are available?Besides LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis), there are other types of laser eye surgery, including SMILE, PRK, EVO ICL, and Custom Lens Replacement. Each has its benefits, and the best one for you depends on individual factors like prescription and eye structure. Chu Vision’s team of eye care professionals conducts a thorough physical examination and guides you on the most suitable laser surgery for your needs. Are there any associated risks with LASIK?Like any surgical procedure, LASIK has risks. Potential complications, though rare, include infection, under-correction or overcorrection, and flap-related issues. Regular follow-up appointments at Chu Vision ensure early detection and management of any complications, ensuring optimal LASIK eye surgery recovery. Can I have LASIK if I have other eye conditions?Certain conditions like keratoconus, macular degeneration, or cataracts might disqualify you from LASIK. If you have conditions like presbyopia, alternative procedures might be more appropriate. Chu Vision’s expert team can assess your eye health and advise on the best refractive surgery. What can I expect months after LASIK?Months after surgery, most LASIK patients report stabilized vision, with many of the initial symptoms like dry eyes or blurry vision completely healed. It’s crucial to attend follow-up visits and appointments, as prescribed by Chu Vision, to ensure the eyes remain healthy. How is LASIK different from cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange? While LASIK reshapes the cornea to correct vision, cataract surgery involves replacing the clouded natural lens with an artificial one. Refractive lens exchange is similar but is done for vision correction rather than cataract treatment. Chu Vision provides comprehensive information on each procedure and their differences, guiding patients in their decision-making process. When can I go back to wearing makeup or using eye creams? You can return to wearing eye makeup the day after LASIK, however we do recommend you purchase brand new eyeliner and mascara to avoid bacteria. Chu Vision provides detailed aftercare guidelines to ensure the eyes remain safe and infection-free. Should I avoid certain activities after LASIK?Yes, patients are advised to avoid bright lights, contact sports, swimming, and hot tubbing for a specified period. It’s also recommended to wear sunglasses to protect from UV rays. Always follow Chu Vision’s postoperative guidelines for a safe and smooth recovery. What can I take if I experience pain after my LASIK surgery? For most patients, discomfort after LASIK is minimal, but if you do experience pain, an over-the-counter analgesic might help. However, always consult with your Chu Vision specialist before taking any medication post-surgery. What is the typical LASIK postoperative process at Chu Vision? Our LASIK postoperative process is designed to prioritize your comfort and safety. Patients receive detailed aftercare instructions, which may include wearing eye shields for protection, using prescribed drops, and guidelines for activities. Regular follow-up visits are scheduled to monitor your recovery and ensure optimal visual outcomes. These are typically scheduled 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month after surgery. How long does it take to recover from LASIK surgery? The initial recovery from LASIK is quick, with many patients resuming normal activities within a day or two. However, full surgery recovery time, where the vision stabilizes and any dryness or discomfort disappears, can range from a few weeks to a few months. Chu Vision will provide a personalized recovery timeline based on your specific procedure and needs. Are there any precautions I should take when it comes to protecting my eyes post-surgery?Chu Vision recommends quality sunglasses to protect against UV rays and other potential irritants during your outdoor activities. via https://www.chuvision.com/lasik/a-guide-to-lasik-recovery-and-aftercare-for-minneapolis/ When considering LASIK eye surgery, many questions come to mind. One question is, “How long will I need to take off work after LASIK?” This article will answer that question and some other frequently asked questions about resuming your normal activities after LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis). Chu Vision Institute’s specialists are happy to answer all of your questions and assist you in determining whether LASIK is the best option for correcting your vision. Call our office today to request an appointment for your initial consultation and start your journey to clearer vision and freedom from glasses and contact lenses. How long do I need to take off work after LASIK?You will typically need to take the day of your LASIK procedure and the day after your procedure, although some patients are able to return to work the next day. The amount of time off work after undergoing LASIK surgery is surprisingly minimal, thanks to the eyes’ remarkable healing capabilities. These natural processes enable the eyes to filter out contaminants efficiently, rapidly heal minor injuries, and adjust to the changes brought about by laser vision correction in a remarkably short amount of time. The LASIK procedure involves reshaping the cornea to correct visual impairments such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, enhancing your vision significantly. Following the procedure, it’s recommended to allow some time for recovery, though the exact duration can vary from one individual to another. Chu Vision takes a personalized approach to assessing each patient’s recovery, offering a more tailored timeline for each individual’s return to work. Generally, it is suggested to plan for at least 24 to 48 hours of rest post-procedure. Additionally, patients must attend post-operative care appointments to ensure optimal recovery. These appointments are brief, with the first scheduled for the day after surgery and the second occurring one month later, with more being scheduled if needed. These follow-ups are essential components of the aftercare process, ensuring that patients receive the necessary guidance and support from their eye doctor for a smooth and efficient recovery. How soon after my LASIK procedure do my eyes start the healing process?Your eyes start healing immediately after LASIK surgery, making it possible for most people to see better and get back to their normal activities within just 24 hours. The first 4-6 hours should be spent resting with your eyes closed to promote quicker healing and prevent dryness. This quick recovery means you can start driving, reading, using your phone, and even returning to work soon after the surgery. However, it’s normal to have some blurry vision or see your vision change a bit for a few weeks, or sometimes months, after the surgery. This is just part of the healing process. Patients are advised to avoid rubbing their eyes and to use artificial tears regularly to prevent dryness and promote healing. An eye examination may be scheduled to monitor the recovery process and ensure the cornea is healing properly. If you have a different type of laser eye surgery such as SMILE or PRK, you might need to take a bit more time off work before you feel ready to go back. You might feel okay to return to work sooner, but it’s important to follow certain safety tips to make sure your eyes heal well and you recover smoothly from the procedure. For those undergoing LASIK or any other form of refractive surgery, the LASIK surgeon will provide specific instructions on care and recovery. This might include taking a nap immediately after the procedure to allow the eyes to rest, and being cautious about when to engage in activities that could lead to contact with water or dust. Transcription: my name is Ted Taney and I had the light adjustable lens procedure it was amazing the procedure was easy simple and the results incredible I’ve got a beautiful wife and three amazing daughters so I work I’m a financial adviser I love to golf play tennis I love to be active love to go to movies concerts sporting events so I like to do a lot of special activities it got to the point where when I played golf I just couldn’t see the ball I’d hit the ball 150 yards and then I couldn’t see it and then if somebody said to me good shot then I’d walk straight and then if nobody said any then I had to decide whether I had to walk right or left knowing I didn’t hit it down the middle oh funny it got to the point where it just film like a film was over my eyes or like if I played tennis and stuff like that the ball I just couldn’t see the ball fast enough it was just getting on top of me so quickly well Dr Chu um we’ve been neighbors we were neighbors for 15 years great family and as I said I mean his reput Dr Chu’s reputation is number one and the thing I liked about Dr Chu you know I mean I I was going to have cataract surgery you know about four years ago and he said you know what you know my cornea was kind of not shaped the way it should be and he said you know I could do the surgery but I don’t want to take your money just stay patient you know the technology that’s coming out gets better and better and he said I’ll keep you informed and when I feel I find something that fits you I will definitely let you know and that’s exactly what happened here about you know less than a year ago and as I said it was one of the best phone calls I ever received because the results you know it’s a like it’s a game changer and a lifechanger really and the trust is is quite as as high as it can be you know when you can’t see I mean after I got the surgery done it’s like I got a new HD TV and you know the trees in the fall were just incredible the colors and stuff like that so and then when I started hitting the golf ball changed the game dramatically too when it comes to the testing and whatever you know they’re very thorough I mean I I felt like I got to know the team really really well I mean you walk in here I mean everybody’s just incredible you know as far as how nice they are mine was a little tricky as far as the surgery with the cornea situation it kind of made me nervous a little bit but you know after talking to the team and going through this testing and stuff like that Dr Heckman was excellent and whatever she was a a big help in that respect and whatever and you know it just made me you know feel more comfortable because you know somebody said you know we can have the surgery even the light adjustable surgery but you still might have to wear glasses and I thought oh boy don’t you know so I thought going through this whole process and stuff like that and then possibly having to wear glasses that was a little bit of a downer but as I said no glasses except except for closeup Dr Chu as far as the light adjustable lens I mean that’s when he called me and said I got a you know the state of the art and he he thought this would be a a perfect fit for me that’s that’s how it all started and stuff and then they gave me some information to read on it and everything like that so you know it was exciting to to hear about the process but when he said state-of-the-art and that made me feel comfortable and very happy with my situation you know I mean it was a trickier surgery and whatever and you know you feel anxiety or whatever but once again one of the highlights of the whole process you know Dr Chu everybody the team you know just made you just feel comfortable and took away that anxiety and then when I got done with the surgery I woke up and there was Dr Chu shaking my hand and telling me everything went great you know that meant so much to me you know I tell my family that and I tell everybody that you know you never know when you wake up did it go well or not but he was there shaking my hand and said everything’s great and that made me feel really really good it definitely took a few days you know I mean first it was blurry and everything like that but you know once again the team and Dr Chu comforted me and said that’s the process got to go through this process I mean you know from start to finish you know it’s probably 6, 8 weeks or rather before you really get to where you want to be and locking it in you know the vision and things like that so you know probably within 3 or 4 days it was a wow factor you know I’d come back and then keep checking and checking and just making sure that I was comfortable and everything was um where it needed to be and every time it came back it just seemed like everything was you know better and better and I got 20/20 Vision just everyday life just being able to watch TV and driving everything is just so clear and bright thing is the lights are brighter you know and whatever you know and the Sunshine’s brighter and everything’s brighter so but you know once again it’s so much easier people take it for granted or whatever but you know it’s it’s a major part of your life obviously I would say it’s it’s it’s not a big deal the big deal is when you’re done and you realize what you’ve accomplished by having the surgery I would recommend that to anybody and I would recommend Chu vision for sure and i’ and I have you know any chance that I have an opportunity to say great things about Chu Vision I’m right up there it’s like anything when you recommend something you got nothing to gain and everything to lose but I always feel confident when I’m recommending the best just to be able to you know see everything so clear and you know I mean once again before you know with the film over my eye and stuff like that it just got to the point it just it just gets to be like eye strain and it gets draining on you after a while you know especially after a long day and then you know come night time you’re just kind of exhausted just by being able to you know see and um it just you know takes a toll on you and I don’t feel that at all well once again I’d like to thank everybody you know I walked in the door here today you know everybody knew me I just felt like like it’s family or whatever so I mean it’s it’s wonderful every single person and every time I see Dr Chu I say you got to be so proud of your team that you’ve got here because I mean Dr Chu is great but you know he’s only as good as the people that he surrounds himself with I just can’t see enough that’s that’s the bottom line and as I said I would recommend Chu Vision to anybody and everybody via via https://www.chuvision.com/news/25-years-of-chu-vision/ SMILE vision correction is a revolutionary eye surgery that corrects your vision, similar to LASIK! Kayla is a nurse at Chu Vision Institute with Dr. Chu. She chose to have the SMILE procedure to get out of her contacts and glasses. Congratulations to Kayla on her new eyes!
Transcript: my name is Kayla and I’m having SMILE today I am a nurse here at Chu Vision I’ve been here for about 3 and 1/2 years Hobbies would be boating fishing um spending time with family um when I do have time I do like to scrapbook um and then spending time with our cats I’ve been wearing glasses since fifth grade so about 25 years so it’s been a long time um it’s pretty blurry I do need to wear my glasses to see or contacts getting up in the middle of the night like going to the bathroom I I don’t put them on but um it’s it’s pretty blurry without either of those things to help me see also when just as a woman putting on makeup I feel like I can see my makeup more when I don’t have my glasses on so I do you know like that but I am looking forward to just feeling like Freedom when I wear my contacts I just would feel more and more the past couple months just say I really like not wearing my glasses not having to worry about packing stuff for getting contact solution when you go on a trip or just anywhere and you got to go buy it at the store so I wanted smile my husband actually had it done about 2 years ago here um he really um was super happy with his results I didn’t want LASIK specifically because there’s more risk of a dryness after I don’t really have dryness to begin with and then I just preferred not to have a flap I’m feeling excited kind of anxious a mix of emotions can’t believe the day is finally here but I’m really excited for it my eyes are doing fantastic I have no complaints it took a little bit to clear up of course some kind of hazy Vision fogginess um but then it took a little while for the eyes to kind of match each other um but I’d say they’re they’re very much the same as far as Clarity wise and Dr Chu walked me through the entire process um I did not feel nervous nervous at all or anxious during the whole process I actually thought it went fairly fast so Dr Chu like is super helpful for him to talk through the whole thing but his voice is very calming um there’s not a moment where he’s silent and you’re wondering what’s happening um being under the laser it was kind of nerve-wracking to think about um I felt that after talking with co-workers after that I was a patient that you know was just great under the laser um I was nervous about the part where you couldn’t see for a little bit it I didn’t really feel I didn’t feel a thing like the laser touching my eye I felt you know they put the little eyelid separator there but you have a numbing drop administered before anything starts at all and then it’s just the countdown and you’re just focusing on breathing and it’s just I I wasn’t nervous at all it just was more of excitement for me than anything yeah so I remember walking out of the laser room and when I turned the corner I didn’t expect myself to get emotional but just seeing Dr Chu and having the whole Entourage of everybody cheering me on was like super just surreal it was emotional it was happy my husband was there all the people and it just was super exciting and I I wouldn’t change anything for that experience um my whole identity for like my young adulthood and my teenage years was glasses and contacts so being free from those has been a huge change for my life um I thought a part of me would be losing myself because I wore glasses all the time for me I didn’t really mind wearing glasses I saw it like as an accessory then I started working here and I thought maybe I’ll do that someday but I don’t know if I’m ready for it a lot of patients will say why didn’t I do it sooner and I feel like I think I just did it at the right time in my life but it’s changed just everything the way I get ready I don’t have to decide is it a glasses or a contacts day today at night I feel like I got to take my contacts out cuz it’s time for bed or waking up from a nap it’s not the case so I just don’t have to make those choices anymore which is awesome yeah so um my in-laws live in Red Wing so my sister-in-law is she lives in LA so she was here for a stent of time in October so we stayed at my in-law’s house uh with my husband husband and I and it was the first place that I stayed other than my own home overnight since the surgery so immediately when I woke up I thought I got to get my glasses on and I didn’t have to do that that was pretty cool yeah very exciting I think the biggest thing like Christmas coming up driving at night cuz it’s so dark now that I don’t have to worry about like dryness with contacts or wearing glasses if I can see really well a really nice thing too even though it’s getting darker now but sunlight daylight wearing um sunglasses is really awesome because I didn’t wear prescription sunglasses so I can just pop those on and way I go being treated but not like a number but like a patient the way that I see our staff greets patients right when they walk in you feel like you’re treated like another human being and then just seeing the whole process and how everything goes with laser vision correction it’s it’s an excitement you know it’s something exciting things that you do in life like your hobbies and we take all of those things into account why you really want to do this surgery and what how it’s going to help your life after it is truly a gift to have this I never would have thought that I would be doing this um I’ve worked here for almost 4 years and I just when I started working here would I have thought that I would be in this boat in this chair no having the roles reversed and being a patient and like I said I wouldn’t change anything I the team was wonderful everybody was super happy for me and I think that’s like their excitement was my excitement that was like very very special but I feel like you can get you get to be seen more of who you are versus behind your glasses so I think that’s something that was scary at first cuz that like I feel naked without them but now I’m so used to it you know 2 and a half months after that it’s just one less thing that I have to worry about I found myself after surgery like motioning to take my glasses off you know or pushing them up like this and it’s yeah it’s incredible I would say your first best choice would just to come in and get a consult see if you’re a candidate I know it might be nerve-wracking and people a lot of times say they put it off because other things come up in life kids work schedules everything just come in to see if you are able to get the surgery first off and then lasik versus smile I liked smile because there was no flap because my husband had it done 2 years ago and I thought it’d be cool that we both had smile together so and it’s a very unique procedure and Dr Chu is the only one that does it here in Minnesota so it’s amazing I love it thank you I would do it over and over again via https://www.chuvision.com/simle-eye-surgery/kayla-rn-gets-smile-vision/ |
